Public spaces

A view of scenic Walmart, Kannapolis NC. copyright 2012 Ellen Ward. All Rights Reserved.

The vast parking lot is such a feature of life in these parts: our most obvious public space. Our biggest public space if one eliminates sports arenas. The concrete vista! The past few weeks have brought some hefty and stubborn seagulls to the lot. They refuse to move for cars! And arrive in packs like weary traveling salesmen to the Holiday Inn. I used a woodless pencil here, and it was great to capture the light and moment. Next time I will try to get a sketch of the gulls!
